Another Karroubi-Basij confrontation
Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 10:41AM Mehdi Karroubi's series of run-ins with pro-government Basij thugs continued yesterday at the main mosque of Tehran's Sharif University, where a memorial service was being held for the father of Mohammad-Reza Aref, Iran's vice-president under Mohammad Khatami. Karroubi was faced with insults and chanting and was forced to leave the scene.
Afterward Karroubi, not for the first time, made a comparison between the present situation and the Shah's regime (which is the one of the ultimate insults in the discourse of the Islamic Republic):
If in the Shah's time there was one Shaban Bimokh [a famous street thug/Shah loyalist], this regime has created hundreds.
Basij would make him proud
