Waging a cultural war against Iran's enemies

Mohammad Ali Jafari, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), has again emphasized that the IRGC's main task is to confront a so-called soft war that it believes is being waged against the regime.  He adds that it "should confront the enemies in cultural-political fronts and this requires much work in areas of culture."

This talk of a cultural war has echoes of last week's Friday sermon, in which the prayer leader called for a revolution in Iran's universities similar to the 'first revolution' - an ominous reference to the notorious Cultural Revolution in the early 1980s that was a brutal, comprehensive attempt to purge the universities of non-Islamic influences.
