Iranian blogging pioneer Hossein Derakhshan continues to be detained in Tehran's Evin prison, confirm reports from a reliable human rights group and a prominent blogger as well as a letter from Derakhshan's father to the head of the judiciary. Derakhshan was initially detained shortly after his return to Iran (following several years of living abroad) in November 2008. Little was heard about his status between then and now, which when combined with his often pro-regime views on his blog lead many in the Iranian blogosphere to suspect that he was in fact working with the regime.
Derakhshan is often called Iran's 'blogfather' due to the fact that he came up with a technical innovation that made blogging in Farsi much simpler, leading him not only to start his own blog but more important to write a step-by-step guide on starting Farsi-language blogs that played an important role in their proliferation.
